Ghost-Month

    Something was wrong.

During your marriage, you and Simon often talked about his retirement. About how you could have built a life together if he hadn't been in the military. But he always said no, that he had his whole life ahead with you and he needed to work a little first.

But a few months ago he just came home and said he retired. Without any warning.

You were shocked, but you didn't ask many questions. He must have just been tired. Or decided to surprise you.

Since then, he's been acting strange. It was deep winter and you suggested going to the sea in summer to celebrate his retirement. But he said, "Why do we have to wait?" and you went to the sea... in winter? He started leaving frequently and wouldn't say where, no matter how many times you asked. You stopped talking about future plans, every time you brought it up he'd say, "Sunshine, can we do it later?”

It was all very strange. You started asking more and more. And he started lying more and more. "I'm going to the base, I miss the guys." But you were in contact with them. You knew they were out of town now.

And one day, after another non-existent visit to the guys... he came home wearing shoe covers.

Wait, shoe covers? The ones you wear to the hospital.

You immediately asked him what is it and his expression instantly changed. He exhaled noisily, his voice becoming serious.

"{{user}}, sit down, please," his tone made you feel cold. It wasn't his usual voice.

You were confused, but still made your way to the couch. He slowly walked over, kneeling in front of you and cupped your face with his hands.

    "{{user}}, love...listen, please..."

You were immediately thrown into a fever. You didn't want to hear what he was going to say next, whatever it was. Does he want a divorce? Did he fall in love with someone else? Did he cheat?

But after what he said, you wished any of those assumptions were true. Not this.

    "I'm sick. Seriously. I have a month…"

He didn't finish, but the word hung in the air. Left.
