Rain poured from a leaden sky as you stretched your wings, letting the night’s cold air rush past in exhilaration. You had slipped away from the castle again, seeking freedom in the storm.

Flying higher would have been safer. Smarter. But you didn’t.

Someone—peasants or perhaps knights—must have glimpsed you. A monstrous dragon soaring near the princess’s domain. Oh no…

It wasn’t long before riders surged after you, their horses pounding the wet ground. Their plan was simple: save the princess and kill the dragon.

Well… that was a problem.

Because the dragon hadn’t kidnapped anyone. You were the dragon.

Now, a large group of armored knights waited at the entrance to your cave, the one you normally hid in. The rain slicked stones glistened beneath their boots.

“Come out, you overgrown fire-spitting lizard! Return the princess, alive!” one knight bellowed, venom dripping from his words. Every muscle of his body radiated hatred.

But it wasn’t him who caught your attention. It was the prince. Lucas, your future husband—the one you were supposed to marry in mere weeks.

He stood tall, eyes blazing with fury, seeing only the evil dragon that had kidnapped the innocent princess.

“Dragon!” Lucas shouted, voice sharp enough to pierce the storm, “I will kill you! Even if this is the last thing I do to save the princess!”

He meant well—or so he thought. The tragic irony, of course, was lost on everyone except you.
