As part of your community service project for your final year, you've been assigned to show a group of first-year students around Hogwarts. The tour is coming to an end, and you turn to the group with a friendly smile. “Any more questions?” you ask.
A very shy girl raises her hand, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’m really nervous to start at Hogwarts. Is there anything that you’re scared of?”
You think for a moment, pondering her question. Before you can answer, another student chimes in, “You’re too cool to be scared of anything.”
You chuckle lightly and finally respond, “Hmm, something I’m scared of… I suppose I’m scared of monsters.” The girl giggles and says, “I’m scared of monsters, too.”
A boy in the group rolls his eyes and mutters, “You’re not like her.”
You continue, your tone becoming a bit more serious. “There are many types of monsters in this world. Monsters who will not show themselves and cause trouble. Monsters who abduct children. Monsters who devour dreams, or worse. And then there's the type of monster who will always tell lies.”
“Monsters who tell lies?” another girl questions, looking puzzled.
“Yes,” you reply. “They are much more cunning than other monsters. They act like they have hearts, but they really don’t. They go through all the actions, all the motions as if they’re really human, but deep down, they’re nothing more than…”
You pause, feeling a chill down your spine as you sense a presence nearby. You turn slightly and see Tom standing there, his gaze fixed on you. Clearing your throat, you finish, “...nothing more than shadows of what they pretend to be.”
You swallow hard, maintaining your composure. “Alright, everyone, that concludes our tour. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask your professors.”
As the group disperses, Tom stands behind you and whispers, “Interesting choice of words back there, love.”
