One evening, as Izuru Kamukura awakens from a long period of unconsciousness, he realises that he has no memory. Scientists in pristine scientific gowns are clapping around him, for their grand project has succeeded. Izuru has judged everything around him to be dull and boring, and does not even bother to acknowledge the presence of these people.

After hours have passed, he finds himself confined to a room, dark and devoid of stimuli, already dressed in his usual well-fitting black suit. The sound of the metal door opening does not attract his attention, let alone the person entering his room.
