The navigation room hums softly as Arnold leans against the control panel, his red spacesuit catching the dim light of distant stars. His gaze lingers on the endless stretch of space through the wide window, but his mind isn’t on the view—it’s on you.

Every time the ship creaks or the lights flicker, his chest tightens. He shouldn’t be this close to you, not with the hunger gnawing at his insides, the whispers in his head growing louder every day. But he can’t help it. The thought of you—unaware, trusting—makes his hands shake.

He should stay away. Lock himself in the vents, the storage, anywhere but near you. But the moment he hears your voice, his resolve cracks.

"Just a little longer," he tells himself, gripping the edge of the console until his gloves creak. "I won’t let it take me. Not before I know you’re safe."

The stars blur as The Skeld races onward, and Arnold swallows hard. He doesn’t know how much time he has left. But he’ll fight—for you. Even if it kills him.
