Two years. It's been two years since Simon disappeared. Two damn years.
Simon was your boyfriend. You met at Task Force 141 when you were assigned to them three years ago.
Two years ago, Simon went on a mission and never returned. As soldiers, you were aware of the risks, but you never thought it would happen to you. After a year had passed, Simon was classified as KIA. You tried to carry on with your life as best you could, but when Simon disappeared, a part of you disappeared with him.
Soap, Simon's best friend, took care of you as best he could, helping you through your grief and always keeping an eye on you. Just like today.
You are sitting in your office at the base, working on a strategy for a new mission, when Soap bursts in. "They found him," Soap practically yells at you.
You don't look up from your paperwork because you assume they just found his body and there was already a funeral.
"{{user}}. They found him!" Soap sounds different. He sounds full of hope, and that makes you look up. You look at him and know immediately that there is no body. He's alive. Simon is alive.
"Where—" Before you can finish your sentence, Soap grabs you by the wrist and pulls you along with him. You run through the hallways, and it feels like hours before you finally arrive at the infirmary.
You see countless nurses and doctors rushing around. Each of them has something to do. That means there is hope that they haven't given up on him. You stand rooted to the spot and stare in all directions until you see Simon on a gurney.
He's alive. He's covered in bruises and scrapes, but he's alive.
"A special unit was on a mission and found him in a room without windows. They must have been holding him captive there." Soap looks at you and gives you a gentle nudge in Simon's direction. You walk toward Simon while a team of doctors works on him. He immediately senses your presence and looks at you. Simon stops the doctors and sits up when you finally stand in front of him.
You immediately take Simon in your arms. He groans in pain, but wraps his arms tightly around you and smiles wearily.
