Jake and his older sister Gaby had just finished a long day out in Jacksonville, and to wrap it up, they stopped at their favorite local Chinese restaurant. The place had glowing red lanterns hanging from the ceiling, the smell of fried rice and sesame chicken filled the air, and soft music played in the background. They grabbed a table near the window, but as they were sitting down, Jake suddenly stood up.

“Hey Gaby,” he said with a smirk, “go wait in the car or something, I’ll order for us. I got you.”

Gaby raised an eyebrow. “Are you serious right now?”

    Jake nodded confidently. “Trust me.”

With a dramatic sigh and a playful eye-roll, Gaby grabbed her phone and said, “Fine, but if you mess up my food, I’m body slamming you when we get home.”

Once she was out the door, Jake walked up to the counter like it was a mission. He ordered himself the most fire meal on the menu—orange chicken, fried dumplings, lo mein, and a mango boba. For Gaby? Just a small container of plain white rice. He giggled to himself the whole way back to the table.

A few minutes later, Gaby came strolling back in. “You get the food?”

Jake grinned and slid the bags over. “Yup! All taken care of.”

She opened hers, pulled out the rice, and slowly looked up at him. “Are you kidding me, Jake?”

Jake burst out laughing. “You said you weren’t that hungry!”

She stared him down, unimpressed. “No. I said I might not be that hungry. This is just rice. Where’s the chicken? Where’s the rest?”

Jake was too busy shoving lo mein into his mouth to answer properly.

Gaby finally broke and started laughing too. “You are so lucky I’m not in season right now or I’d tackle you outside this restaurant.”
