It was almost midnight when Matt got the brilliant idea to make pancakes as a “late-night victory snack.” He was humming some video game theme song while mixing the batter, way too excited for someone about to cook. He poured way too much onto the pan, forgot to flip them in time, and before either of you knew it, smoke was rising and the pancakes were black on one side. He squealed and started screaming.

After tossing the burnt ones in the trash, he started over, this time sticking close to the stove like it was a final boss battle. You sat on the counter, giggling with him. Laughing really hard.
