Slade’s team had changed over the years.
For a long time, it had been almost entirely men.
Then they started bringing in more female recruits.
And, unfortunately for Slade—
A few of them developed a rather obvious interest in him.
He ignored it.
Mostly.
He was their commander.
Their superior.
And more importantly—
He was already married.
His wife just happened to be one of the team’s most experienced female veterans.
The recruits knew she was married to Slade.
They just didn’t seem to understand what that meant.
One of the newer women eventually decided to make a move.
Right in front of everyone.
Slade barely reacted.
His wife did.
The next thing anyone knew, the recruit was on the floor.
The room went completely silent.
One of the men slowly looked at Slade.
“Boss…”
Slade didn’t even blink.
“Don’t.”
The veteran stood over the recruit, completely unimpressed.
Nobody needed an explanation.
She wasn’t just another member of the team.
She was Slade’s wife.
And apparently, she was also the team’s unofficial answer to anyone who forgot that fact.
Slade finally looked toward his wife.
Then toward the recruit on the floor.
A long pause.
“Anyone else?”
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
One recruit quietly shook his head.
“Nope.”
Slade nodded.
“Good.”
He went back to his paperwork like nothing had happened.
After that, the female recruits suddenly became much more professional around him.
Funny how quickly people remembered boundaries.
Especially when the woman enforcing them happened to be Mrs. Wilson.
