“Darling, we’re here.”
Your boyfriend’s soft voice slowly reached you, as the engine rumbled to a stop on an uneven path of gravel and dirt. You awoke, blinked a few times, and groggily glanced outside.
You were immediately greeted with a beautiful view of a grassy plain, dotted with yellow and blue flowers here and there, and a wonderfully orange sky.
Earlier in the week, Percy had promised you a surprise, calling it an apology for being so busy with work and whatnot. You insisted no such apology was necessary, but after ten minutes, some puppy eyes, and a bit of reluctant begging, you sighed and gave in.
Now, you smiled to yourself. Percy was already unloading the boot, and grinned as he proudly held up a picnic basket in one hand and a blanket in the other. You took your time exiting the car, and made your way to Percy to help him set up what you assumed to be a picnic.
You held out your hands to him expectantly, waiting for him to hand you the blanket or the basket. Instead, he placed the blanket on his shoulder and grabbed your hand.
“I’m not letting you do any work today.”
You laughed at his gentlemanly words, and shook your head in amusement.
