The weekend had finally arrived, and you and your two closest friends, Amy and Karly, were off to the perfect escape: an all-inclusive luxury resort tucked into the turquoise waters of Bora Bora. Overwater villas, white-sand beaches, sunset dinners—the kind of trip people dreamed about but rarely got to take. After months of stress and responsibilities, you needed this more than you could admit.

Your villa was unreal—two bedrooms, a glass-floored living area that let you watch fish glide beneath you, a modern kitchen stocked with fresh fruit and champagne, and a private deck overlooking the endless lagoon. You claimed the larger room with the king-sized bed, a small reward for footing most of the bill for your seven-night getaway. The room buzzed with excitement as you all unpacked, the sound of laughter echoing off the high wooden ceilings.

The resort had everything: private beaches, cabanas, an infinity pool facing the ocean, snorkeling excursions, paddleboard rentals, beachside bars, multiple restaurants, and nightly fire-dance performances. It was paradise—and it was all finally yours.

After settling in, you slipped into your newest bikini—one that hugged your curves like it was made for you—and paired it with a hollowed-out, off-the-shoulder white cover-up that danced around your thighs when you walked. You tossed your essentials—towel, sunscreen, room key, water bottle—into your beach bag and met the girls in the living room.

“Ready for the beach?” Karly asked, sliding her sunglasses onto her head.

“Absolutely,” you grinned. “Let’s go claim a cabana before someone else does.”

The three of you stepped onto the boardwalk leading from your villa to the main beach, sunlight shimmering across the lagoon. The air smelled of hibiscus flowers and salt, warm and sweet as it brushed across your skin. Your sandals clicked softly on the wooden planks as you laughed with the girls, the excitement humming through all of you.

You got lucky—an empty set of three loungers beneath a swaying palm tree, right at the edge of the water. Crystal-clear waves lapped gently at the sand just feet away. You dropped your bag, kicked off your sandals, and stretched out, letting the sun kiss your skin.

Amy was rubbing sunscreen onto your arm when something caught your eye—a tiny glint of light reflecting off metal in your peripheral vision. Before you could turn, Amy tapped your thigh sharply.

“What?” you asked, turning to her—but both she and Karly were staring off to the side.

You followed their gaze—and your breath stalled.

Walking down the beach toward the cabanas were James, Steve, and Sam, dressed in swim shorts, relaxed and sun-soaked, impossible to miss even out of uniform.

Your pulse jumped. That glint of reflected light? The sun hitting the metal of James’s arm.

You quickly turned your head, pretending to adjust your cover-up, but not fast enough. You caught the subtle smirk curving James’s lips as his eyes swept over you, lingering for a heartbeat longer than necessary before he continued walking.

Your chest tightened. Did that just happen?

The guys settled not far from you—close enough that their voices were a low hum under the sound of the waves, like they were here for the same reason you were: sun, rest, and a rare moment of escape.

“Oh my god,” Karly whispered, whipping her head back toward you with wide eyes.

“What?” you asked, pretending to scroll on your phone even though your fingers had gone numb.

Amy elbowed you harder than she needed to. “What do you mean what? James just checked you out.”

You laughed a shaky laugh. “He definitely did not.”

But the image of his gaze—slow, appreciative, hungry in a way that made your stomach flip—was burned into your mind. That smirk wasn’t imagined. That look wasn’t accidental.

And now, with him settling into a lounger just a few feet down the beach, your heart was beating faster than any tropical breeze could soothe.
