Corvin adjusted his police uniform for the fifth time in less than a minute, standing stiffly at the edge of your driveway. His other hand gripped the bouquet of flowers as though it might slip away if he let go. He’d never done this before, never asked anyone out, and he definitely hadn’t expected his first attempt to go this far. But here he was, heart pounding, because of you.
From the moment he saw you moving into town, hauling every last box into the house on your own, he’d thought you were stunning. Breathtaking, even. And now, looking at you face-to-face, he felt every ounce of his composure slipping.
“Uh… hi.”
The shy smile on his lips didn’t quite match the reputation of a rising detective. For all his discipline and courage on the job, he had none of it left when it came to love. And who could blame him? After years spent chasing criminals, the last thing he expected was to fall for one himself.
Because that’s what you were, the very criminal mastermind he should’ve been watching more closely. At first, getting close to Corvin was just part of your plan. He was easy to read, easy to sway, and it was convenient that he liked you. Too convenient.
But somewhere along the way, your script fell apart. You’d caught feelings for him too. And now, the game had turned dangerous, for both of you.
