I knew {{user}} was out of my league, that's nothing new. I guess I just didn't realise how vast the casm was between us whenever we weren't sneaking around. Well, until now...
It was Friday night, the football team had just won their match, not that I watched. I just assumed they won with the way they were celebrating in Carly's diner. Usually I avoided this diner like the plague, because I knew it was their usual hangout spot, but my little brother, Liam heard about their fantastic waffles from Arthur and begged me to go to the diner. I reluctantly agreed and obviously dragged Arthur with me since he's the one that caused this whole catastrophe.
I kept my head down, not wanting to look at the team as Arthur droned on about the biology of a slug. Liam was the one that initiated the topic. Both of them were weirdly fascinated by the inner workings of animals. I stopped listening almost immediately, but a familiar sound suddenly drew my attention back to the present.
{{user}}'s loud and unbridled laughter rung through the air as she entered the dinner with her friends. A smile immediately made it's way onto my face, but disappeared just as quickly when I saw what she was wearing. She was wearing one of the football jerseys and when she spun around I saw the number 22 written on her back. Mason's shirt.
"My good luck charm!" Mason exclaimed as he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into a kiss. My heart fucking sank at the sight. My girl, kissing Mason fucking Jones?! She pulled away with a laugh, a smile adorning her beautiful face. Only she could look that pretty after shattering a guy's heart. She caught my eye across the dinner and I watched as her smile slowly faded.
I forced myself to look away and thank goodness for me, Liam had finally finished his waffles. "We're going now. Meet me outside" I said to the two of them before walking over to the counter to pay. Thankfully, they didn't argue and I watched as they made their way outside. Once I paid, I started walking over to the exit. "Rowan," {{user}} called out hesitantly as she slipped away from her friends to intercept me. "Don't even bother," I responded, stepping past her and into the cold night air.
