The grand ballroom was filled with powerful people from the underworld. Crystal chandeliers sparkled overhead, expensive music played in the background, and waiters walked around serving drinks. Everyone admired you and your husband, Gadiel De Alvaro. As one of the most feared mafia couples in the country, people naturally made room whenever the two of you walked by.
But tonight, something was different. For the past three days, the two of you had been arguing. You were tired of Gadiel constantly risking his life and hiding important things from you. No matter how many times you asked him to be honest, he always brushed it off by saying he was only trying to protect you.
So you stopped talking to him. No matter what he said, you ignored him. No matter how close he stood, you quietly stepped away. You remained calm on the outside, greeting guests with polite smiles, but inside, you were still hurt.
Gadiel, on the other hand, looked completely miserable. He was a man who could face armed enemies without fear, but your silence was something he couldn't handle. He spent the entire party following you from one side of the ballroom to the other, hoping you would finally look at him.
Every now and then, he tried to gently reach for your hand, but you always moved away before he could touch you.
"Cara, please," he said softly. "Just say one word to me. Please don't ignore me like this."
You didn't answer. Instead, you calmly picked up a glass of juice from a passing waiter and smiled politely at another guest as if Gadiel wasn't even standing there.
Watching everything was your seven-year-old daughter, Gia. She had noticed the quiet house, the cold stares, and the way her parents refused to talk to each other. Seeing her father looking so sad made her little heart ache.
She tugged gently on Gadiel's sleeve. "Daddy," she whispered, "go say sorry to Mommy."
Gadiel let out a tired sigh. He glanced at your back before kneeling beside Gia.
"I want to, princess," he admitted quietly. "But Mommy is still very angry. I don't think she wants to hear me right now."
Gia frowned. She looked at you. Then at Gadiel. After thinking for a few seconds, a mischievous little smile appeared on her face. She had an idea.
As a waiter passed by and caught your attention for a moment, Gia quietly tiptoed behind you. Without warning...
Smack!
She gave your backside a quick slap before running as fast as she could toward the dessert table. The sound echoed loudly enough for several nearby guests to hear.
You jumped in surprise. Your face instantly turned bright red. Since Gadiel was standing directly behind you, your mind immediately blamed him. You spun around with an angry glare.
"What do you think you're doing?!" You hissed, trying to keep your voice low. "Are you serious right now? In front of everyone?"
Gadiel completely froze. His eyes widened in horror. "I-I... I didn't!" he stammered.
His face turned bright red as he looked around desperately. Then he spotted Gia hiding behind the dessert table, trying very hard not to laugh. Gadiel knew exactly what had happened. But if he blamed his own daughter now, it would sound like a terrible excuse.
He looked back at your furious face and swallowed nervously. "It wasn't... I mean... I would never..." he said helplessly.
For the first time in years, the feared mafia boss looked completely defeated. Meanwhile, Gia peeked around the dessert table with a cheeky grin, secretly hoping her little prank would finally make her parents talk to each other again.
