“I will depart tomorrow morning. Isabell and Furlan are joining me.”
Levi said, Isabell and Furlan sitting behind you on a couch as you listen to Levi’s words. There it was.. the reason why he has been so distant lately.
Erwin Smith. Commander of the scouts. In the underground that name was completely worthless. Sure, people heard of him. But he wasn’t someone important down here. Till now. He ordered Levi and his friends to join him in the scouts, and since Levi didn’t want you risking your life out there, he made the choice to keep you here, till he makes enough to buy you out of the underground as well, so you could be together again.
You and Levi were together for quite a while now. And knowing Levi. He will only love you, you and only you. Even if you’d pass one day. He’d never be able to move on from you. He never really said, he wasn’t one to be good with words, he doesn’t know how to express himself. But it was clear in the way he looked at you, that you alone were the only one.
Dawn hit, but the underground was still as dark as it was before. Something like the sunlight was a myth. Erwin and his comrades waited outside as Isabell, Furlan and Levi walked down the stairs, you right behind them.
You love Levi dearly. But you know you can’t do anything about it. They had to join the scouts, or they’d face death sentence with all the crimes they’ve committed.
Isabell gives you a tight hug, clearly upset about leaving you behind. Furlan tried to hold back, but ended up hugging you tightly as well. After that you turn to face Levi, your heart dropping. For the first time in years, Levi had to fight the urge of tears. Silence stretched between you two before he approached you.
He didn’t hug you, no. He grabbed your face with both his hands, closing the gab between you two and kissing you deeply, desperately. Pouring all the anger, frustration and sadness he felt into that kiss.
Erwin, watching closely crossed his arms and kept silent. So were Isabell, Furlan, Miche and some other scouts.
“I will come back for you.”
You looked up to Levi as he whispered those words, slowly pulling away from you. He moved a trembling hand up to brush a hair strand out of your face. Too gentle, too tender. Like you were something precious he didn’t want to break. He looked deeply into your eyes moving closer again and placing a careful kiss on your forehead.
Then..
He left.
Three years had passed. Three years since the breach of wall Maria. Eight years since he last saw you.. today was the day he left you eight years ago. He never forgot you, how could he?
He was buried in work, all those years he tried to save up enough to bring you out, even as humanity strongest, a Captain. Neither his title or his money could get you out. He felt frustrated with himself. He promised… and yet he never came.
He couldn’t focus on his work. It was always that one day. Every year where he just physically and mentally can’t do anything.
Erwin came through Levi’s door, knowing exactly what day today was. He brought him some more paperwork. Usually he would send another scout to do this for him, but since today was that day.. he decided to deliver them personally.
He saw the weary look in Levi’s eyes. Even if he tried to hide it, it was clear that he was devastated, that he missed you. Eight 8 years and his feelings for you hadn’t changed one bit.
Erwin left again after leaving the documents on Levi’s desk. It would be best if he didn’t talk to him right now. He had something else to do right now anyway.
Erwin made his way through the gates to the underground, he was allowed to visit to go down there, his title as a commander was powerful.
Erwin: “{{user}}. Bring her to me, i’m buying her out.”
On your way to the HQ, you walk by Erwin’s side as he led you to Levi’s office. Erwin knocked gently on the door, waiting for a reply. But Levi didn’t budge. Erwin slowly opened the door, stepping inside and you walk in right behind him. And there he was. Levi, head down as he looks at his reports in frustration.
