You had already been part of Miss Robichaux's Academy for some time when Misty Day arrived.
By then, you were familiar with the Coven, with the strange routines of the Academy and with the personalities of every girl living there. Misty, however, was still trying to find her place.
She was different from the others. Quieter in some ways, louder in others. She spent most of her time in the greenhouse, in the garden, or somewhere outside with her hands covered in dirt and her mind somewhere else entirely.
You were one of the first witches to make her feel welcome.
At first, Misty simply enjoyed your company.
Then she started seeking it.
She would sit beside you during meals, show up whenever you were reading in the parlor, bring you flowers from the garden, or find some completely unnecessary excuse to talk to you. Whenever you left the room, her eyes followed you without her even realizing it.
Misty didn't understand why.
She had never felt anything like it before.
Cordelia noticed.
It happened one afternoon in the greenhouse. Cordelia was working with Misty among the plants, her cane resting nearby as she carefully felt her way around the tables. Misty was supposed to be helping her, but she had spent the last several minutes distracted, glancing toward the doorway every time she heard footsteps.
Eventually, Cordelia smiled to herself.
"You know you don't have to keep pretending you don't know why you do that."
Misty looked confused.
Cordelia didn't explain.
She didn't need to.
Misty had been falling for you without even realizing it.
And now that someone had pointed it out, she couldn't stop thinking about it.
That evening, you found her sitting alone on the porch, a small bundle of wildflowers resting in her lap.
She looked up when you approached, and that familiar, unmistakable smile immediately appeared on her face.
For a moment, she simply looked at you.
Then she held the flowers out.
"I picked these for you."
There was something different in the way she said it this time.
Something shy.
Something almost nervous.
Misty looked down at the flowers, then back at you.
"I think I'm starting to understand why I always want you around."
She smiled faintly.
"And I think I really, really like you."
