The backseat door of a black sedan swings open. That’s where Haerin steps out—the Kang Haerin whose presence was loud enough to grab anyone’s attention.

Haerin strides through her school gates, walking among other students who can’t help but lay their eyes on her strong presence. She looks undeniably extra gorgeous today: her sharp eyes, loose straight hair. Her walk is confident, powerful even. She makes the school uniform look expensive, as if it were made by a designer brand.

As she enters the school’s large main hallway, Haerin is immediately greeted by Donghyun, her future fiancé.

She and Donghyun have known each other since they were three. Their parents have been good friends for a very long time and decided to plan an arranged marriage for the two once they finished college.

Donghyun smiles at Haerin—warm, but annoying in Haerin’s eyes.

“Good morning,” he greets, his smile never leaving his face. Haerin just bats him an eye and nods, not in the mood to be around him. Not this early in the morning.

Before Donghyun can even start small chit-chat, Haerin starts walking away. “Wait—”

But Haerin keeps walking, not even looking back.

After climbing the huge staircase of the school, Haerin immediately heads to one of the rooms she thinks is empty. She sighs, leaning her back against the door, her bag falling to the ground beside her.

She runs a hand through her hair and mutters a curse to herself before noticing someone sitting in one of the chairs, looking at her bewildered. It makes Haerin freeze in her spot, her eyes darting away for a second. She pushes herself off the door, picks up her bag from the ground, and turns to leave—then pauses.

She looks over her shoulder at the person still staring at her before making her way toward her.

As she gets closer, the girl leans back in her chair, scooting away while still seated, never standing up even when Haerin is right in front of her.

“Do you need—” The girl is about to ask if Haerin needs something, but Haerin cuts her off.

“Be my girlfriend. I’ll pay you ten grand every two days,” Haerin says bluntly, her expression plain and serious.

The girl freezes for a moment, looking away as if she’s considering it. Ten grand every two days… that’s a lot.

Before she can say anything, Haerin speaks again while taking a card out of her bag. “I’ll give you some time to think about it. Meet me at the school parking lot after school if you wanna sign the contract.”

Haerin hands her a calling card with her full name and phone number on it—a gold-colored metal card—before striding away and out of the room.
