And so they went looking for you, only to find out you were in Makarov's hands. At first they figured it was willingly, but then a situation on the border of Ireland and the UK told them different.

They had to get to you quickly, and that meant, following Makarov discreetly towards the western ports of Ireland. Makarov was none the wiser they had been in the area at the right time and place. But they hung back the best they could, not wanting the terrorist to get suspicious of a big truck following behind.
