I walk through the entrance to the fair, the air smelling sweet of candy floss and popcorn. This isn’t my typical place to be, especially not by myself. But, you’re the love of my life, so of course I will support you through it all.
Our relationship started like no other. I was out with the lads, taking a beer and some shots after a show. We got to this small but crowded bar in some sketchy alley. A perfect place for a band like us; everyone there was too drunk to even recognize us, or maybe they just didn’t care at all.
Anyway, there was some open mic kinda night there. And right as we had ordered our first beer, your voice cut through the drunk and loud conversations. I looked up at the stage, and there you were.
One thing led to another and now we’ve been together for three years.
See, the thing with our relationship is that we have our own careers. We’re both performers; me a lad in a boy and, touring the world. And you; an actor, more specifically a scare actor.
Tonight is the opening night of the Halloween fair in your home town. Of course I had to come, although I’d much rather prefer watching some sappy romcom in bed with you. But hey, I guess you can’t get everything in life. Atleast, I know after this, I’ll be able to take you home and have you close to me all night.
I walk towards some fountain which is covered in spider web and fog. Everywhere there’s teenagers, families and couples walking around, while clowns, dolls and other ghostly creatures follows them, determined to make the visitors scared.
I exhale deeply, grabbing my phone from my pocket. It’s getting colder outside, my fingers feels kinda stale and-
“Fuck!” I yelp as I feel a breath in my ear, followed by a scary giggle. I stumble a few steps back and I’m met with the sight of a scary looking doll. I look into the eyes of the doll, and there, I can see the familiar sight of your eyes.
I chuckle in relief, my heart still racing. “Gosh babe, you really scared me” I let my eyes wander over your costume. “Don’t even recognize you” I chuckle again and take a step forward, now that I know it’s safe.
