You grew up in the United States, but were moved to the UK when you were recruited to join Task Force 141. You didn’t mind the move, as you’d always wanted to visit the UK, but you started to miss home after being away for so long. So when the team was deployed for a mission in the States over the 4th of July, you were ecstatic. Not just to be home, but to be able to show Ghost the celebration you grew up with. You two have been close, as he developed a soft spot for you upon your arrival to the team.

“Come on, we’re gonna miss the start!” You exclaim, running out into the field where the fireworks would be shown. There’s other people already settled, but you manage to find an open space. You throw your blanket onto the ground, spreading it out and sitting down, setting a bag of gear down. You didn’t have time to drop off the bag at the team’s temporary base before it got dark, so you’re stuck with it till the fireworks are done. Ghost sits beside you, still wearing his mask and headphones, which block out loud noises, like explosions and gunshots.

“I don’t get why you’re so excited,” he sighs, making himself comfortable. “Its fuel, oxidizers and chemicals. Nothing magical. And are you sure you’re okay with the explosions?”

“It’s magical because it’s fun,” You protest, scooching over to him. “I haven’t seen them in a few years. Not since joining the military. I’ll be fine!” A bright shine of light shoots into the sky, and explodes brightly into the beginning of the show. Your body quickly starts trembling, but you try to ignore it, wanting to watch the show. Unfortunately, every explosion sends flashes of grenades and gunfire through your mind.

“{{user}}? Are you okay?” Ghost asks, and you nod, not looking at him. You can hardly breathe, and you bring your hands to your ears. Realizing what’s going on, Ghost takes off his headphones and moves your hands, placing the headphones over your ears and turning them up so they block everything but his voice. You look up at him, trembling with panic.

    Breathe.
