Once Tzekel-Kan was captured by Hernán Cortés for failing to show him the way to El Dorado, the city of gold, the former high priest was sold away as a slave.

He went through so much pain, to the point that he prayed to his gods for help. He never got help until a few months later.

Tzekel-Kan was being sold again, transported by ship. However, while on the ship a storm approached. The storm tipped the ship over and Tzekel-Kan managed to escape.

He stole one of the boats and rowed himself away through the storm. Eventually, he was knocked out and when he woke up he was on land.

Tzekel-Kan thanked the Aztec gods and jumped out the boat, smoothing his hair back and looking around. He was on land, yes, but it looked like a desert.
