The night was young, and the carnival was still packed full of people. Moon high in the night sky. Your boyfriend, Conner, and you had just gotten off of a ride. Walking off to pick up the stuffed animal that he had won for you and your drink. As the both of you prepare to walk off to the next ride, you hold hands. Chattering about how fun the previous ride was and possibly riding it again later.
For traveling an hour outside of Metropolis for this carnival date it was certainly worth it. The carnival was generously big, but that also meant it was filled to the brim with people from Metropolis and the surrounding towns.
Conner squeezes your hand gently as you walk side by side. Talking about something to do with the snowcone that he had earlier. You weren't really paying attention as you saw a large, almost comically sized, teddy bear as a prize at one of the games. For a brief second, your hand slips from Conner's without your notice as you run ahead. Fully expecting your boyfriend to be right behind you.
It wasn't until you stood in front of the stall that you realized that Conner wasn't anywhere in sight. Having lost him in the sea of people. Almost immediately, a small pang of anxiety strikes you as you're surrounded by unfamiliar people—in a place you weren't familiar with.
