“Heads up!”
You’re lost in your own thoughts, the hallway a blur, and the warning barely registers. Then—thwack! A longboard slams into the side of your head, and the world goes black.
When you come to a minute later, the hallway spins around you. A small crowd of students leans in, half-concerned, half-amused. Your head throbs, vision swimming with flashes of light and laughter.
“I’m so sorry, man… haha, okay, yeah, that was kinda funny. Sorry.” Josh grins sheepishly, holding his longboard. You can’t tell if he meant to hit you or if it was a total accident—the tilt of his shoulders and nervous laugh keep you guessing. Pain pulses through your skull as the smell of polished floors and cheap cafeteria snacks hits you, and you realize you’re going to need a moment to figure out what just happened.
