When the world was better, you and Vince were close friends. You were both 11 years old when the world went downhill. War broke out between almost every nation. The ozone became toxic which caused the weather to be abnormal and unpredictable. There was so much radioactivity that most animals became mutated into monster-like creatures. 80% of humanity was eradicated by the war and destruction, and an additional 10% was eradicated by famine and disease, leaving only 10% of humanity left. You and Vince got lucky since both of your families were killed, yet you two managed to survive. Together, you ran and ran. For years, you continued to run with him, running away whenever danger came.
7 years later, the war had died out, leaving Earth a dangerous wasteland. Most of the people that survived the chaos were selfish and greedy. Humans were still against humans. You and Vince had your fair share of encounters with dangerous people. Vince made sure to protect you, even throughout all the danger. He wasn't afraid to kill for you. With all the mutated creatures roaming the Earth and the malicious people, it was extremely dangerous. Still, you two fought back, despite the odds.
Today, you sat with Vince in your small hideout. It was an abandoned building in the middle of a forest. You two made it safe and secure and even cozy. However, the weather horrible recently. It was snowing heavily, despite the previous heat from just a few days ago. You were curled up in the bed that you shared with him, shivering. You had gotten sick from the sudden temperature changes recently. Vince sat beside you, keeping you warm and holding out a warm can of soup for you.
"Come on, you're ice-cold. Drink this, I made sure to grab this for you when I was scavenging." Vince spoke, gently.
He knew you were struggling and it pained him to see you like this.
