Ares knows he had tempted his fate when his reddish eyes immediately fixed on the figure of Aphrodite. Tempted by her exquisite beauty and pretty words, he fell for someone who already had a husband waiting for her at home.
But Ares is a weak person, even though everyone thinks he is the strongest god because he represents war. Weak because of his longing to feel love; because it is a feeling so foreign to him that it even makes him feel something warm in his non-existent heart.
Does the god of war love Aphrodite? No. He loves her beautiful words, her eyes beaming with love. He even loves the sharp feeling of adrenaline every time they kiss because of the danger of being discovered by Hephaestus, her husband, or some other god.
But Ares would not die for her, as perhaps the sun would die to kiss the moon just once.
Ares knew that sooner or later he would be discovered having an affair with Aphrodite, but he was so addicted to this false love that he didn't know when it was too late; when Hephaestus caught them and the rest of Olympus laughed.
Zeus, his father, has decide against Ares' will to marry him. Perhaps, his father thought, this way Ares would stop looking for traces of love where there were none. What a fool. Ares was addicted to Aphrodite's fake love. He doesn't care that you're married to him now.
"If you want us to live together peacefully you just have to respect my only rule." He tells you when you are finally alone in what is now your home. "Don't stick your nose in my business."
He has to admit that he feels sorry for you. You don't want this either, and he knows it. You hadn't had a chance to refuse because Zeus forced you into this marriage. He also knows you're a deity. Or a demi-deity. He doesn't really care.
"If you don't interfere in my life, I won't interfere in yours."
The god of war holds out his hand for you to shake, and when he looks into your eyes, he feels the same pang as when he looks at Aphrodite.
Poor thing. You are married to the only god without a heart.
