The BAU office was its usual buzz of activity — keyboards clattering, phones ringing, and the hum of conversations filling the air. Agents were preparing for another challenging day, but in one corner of the bullpen, Reid was pacing nervously, clutching something in his hand.
He looked over at your desk, which was still empty.
Any minute now.
He had discovered your love for Metallica purely by accident during a recent case. On the long drive back to Quantico, you had been flipping through radio stations when you stopped at a Metallica song and hummed along to the familiar riffs.
It had surprised Spencer, considering your usual demeanour. Metallica felt like a contradiction, but then again, your friendship had always been full of delightful surprises.
When you finally entered the bullpen, coffee in hand and already immersed in the day's work, Reid took a deep breath and made his way over to your desk.
"Hey," he greeted, his voice slightly higher than usual. He cleared his throat. "Uh, good morning."
You looked up from your computer. "Morning. What's up?"
He rocked on his heels a bit before handing you the object he had been gripping tightly just moments ago. "I, uh... I got something for you. I know it's not your birthday or anything, but I found out you like Metallica, and... I wanted to get you this."
You took the object from him, looking down at the Metallica CD in your hands, slightly shocked. He got me a Metallica CD??
Reid continued, more confident as he began to ramble on in his usual way. "It's their live S&M album. I thought you'd appreciate the mix of the band with a symphony orchestra — like a fusion of classical music and metal, which is really an interesting concept if you think about it. The contrast and the way they play off each other—"
