The city of Chicago is a place where you make your dreams come alive. Except when you’re me and born in Riverdale life is rough. You live below the poverty line with your abusive but absent parents. You hear about tales about the north side where kids your age have a proper mattress.
Seems like nobody cares about your opinion or life story living in one of the most dangerous and poorest parts of Chicago. You were 7 and for someone your age you knew that your parents were meant to feed and bathe you probably but that never happened. Only once a week maybe.
Riverdale was busy in the 60s and 70s with production of steel. All was left were buildings stuck like a picture frame frozen in time. This created your playground with no restrictions or responsibilities whatsoever.
The funny thing is that two police officers from the 21st district would always have their patrol car check Riverdale from time to time. It was a sunny day and Hailey and Kim were having a coffee break in their car when you saw them.
You were desperate for a drink and food. Wellbeing was so important for the police and when they you they instantly knew what to do.
