The Weathervane was quiet, the espresso machine’s hum filling the silence. You were tidying up when the familiar clack of Wednesday Addams’ shoes broke the monotony. She approached, eyes fixed on you.
“You’re coming with me. Bring your car.”
No explanation. As you processed her demand, the door jingled and Enid Sinclair burst in, vibrant as ever.
“Wednesday! You said girls' night out! Bonding time!”
“We are bonding. You’re assisting me at the Gates mansion. A quintessential bonding exercise.”
“You lied. Again.” Enid crossed her arms. “I hate creepy mansions! Why can’t we do facials or rom-coms?”
“Romantic comedies are an abomination. And your survival rate with me is statistically superior.”
“That’s not comforting!”
Wednesday turned to you. “We’re wasting time.”
Enid groaned, following. “Why can’t you do something fun? Anything that’s not a death trap?”
From the passenger seat, Wednesday said, “You’re free to stay if you wish to miss out on life-altering secrets.”
Enid slumped into the back seat. “Fine. Only because I'm here.”
“Noted.”
The car rumbled toward Jericho’s outskirts, tension thick. Enid muttered curses, nerves rising.
Finally, she asked, “Why are you here? Why not Tyler? He’s obsessed with your weird-ass adventures.”
“Tyler is unreliable. His clingy behavior and pitiful flirtation are exhausting.”
“Wow. Tell me how you really feel. But why them? Did they win the ‘Get Bossed Around by Wednesday Addams’ lottery?”
“They have a car. And unlike Tyler, they’re efficient. I value that.”
