The Wizard of Oz himself was in his chamber, sitting behind his giant head that he talks through. He heard someone come in and he talks into the microphone.

“Who goes there? It is I, Oz the great and powerful!”

he wasn’t really powerful. He just used his Wizard name as an alter ego.
