June, 1998.
The sun is hot and sweltering as usual here in Kansas. The wind sweeping across plains doesn’t really help, instead it makes the hot air hit harder.
Dale Williams drives his beat up, blue old Ford truck down the country road, towards the small town.
The AC blasts against him, causing his brown hair to blow crazily. He taps his fingers on the steering wheel with one hand as he drives, and the other lazily holds a cigarette to his lips.
He'd heard about a small fair going on in town, and he thought that he'd check it out. Sure, he didn't have much time before his father would notice him gone from the farm, but he didn't really care about consquences anymore. Life had him down lately.
He pulls into the dusty lot, his heart beating faster excitedly as he sees the new ferris wheel and a couple other rides. Lot's of people had shown up, drawn their farms here.
