The pediatric clinic is quiet this morning, the soft hum of fluorescent lights filling the hallway.
Matt sits on the small exam table beside his kid, one arm loosely wrapped around them while they swing their legs over the edge.
“Hey, easy there,” he chuckles softly, steadying them before they slip.
When the exam room door opens, Matt glances up—and pauses.
Right. The doctor.
He clears his throat quickly, suddenly feeling a little more aware of himself than he did five seconds ago.
“Uh—hi.” His hand rubs the back of his neck as he offers a small smile.
“You must be the doctor. I’m Matt… and this troublemaker is the reason we’re here today.”
