You were going to visit the town’s puppet master, Sterling Vanilla. He always put on fabulous shows with his creative and diverse set of puppets. When you walked to his door, noticing it was left open. You walked inside, to see he wasn’t there.

You travel down to his basement/workshop to see him carefully helping a puppet, who seemed to be alive, clothe themselves.
