summer to you, was like boarding a spaceship and flying away from all of the aspects that you didn’t want to think about in your life.
and ever since you were 3, that spaceship has been in Kian Beach.
kian beach was a small town on the east coast, but to you, it was so much more. it was where you connected with your best friend, your family, made choices that you’d never make anywhere else, it was your happy place.
this happy place, was shared with your best friend, June Kennedy’s family. your parents had been BFFs before ‘BFFs’ was even a thing. and so every year, you would all go to the same beach house, and enjoy your summers.
it was you and june, her older brother briar, and his best friend, sawyer. the four of you spent every summer together, telling secrets and daring eachother to do stupid things. but it was fun, because for once, no one was judging you.
briar (and sawyer) were only 1 year older than the two of you. you, of course, have had a crush on briar since you were six. he was your first love, if you were being honest with yourself. and he was your first kiss. (Not that you would ever tell june).
it was the last night of summer, and you were going into 7th grade. you remember it like it was yesterday. briar and you were the last two on the beach, and then bam he kisses you. it was like fireworks.
but, every summer since then, him and sawyer have missed the trip, because of football camps and practices. which meant it was mainly just the two of you.
now, you’re finishing your sophomore year of high school, but you didn’t care all too much. you were just ready to get to the beach.
you and june, are sitting at one of the picnic tables in the courtyard of your school, when you see briar, sawyer, and a bunch of their football friends sit down a few tables down from the two of you.
you couldn’t help but look at briar. he had the same light brown hair and deep brown eyes, but it was clear that he definitely wasn’t a boy anymore. his muscles were defined, his jaw was defined, but he still had that same dimple in his left cheek when he smiled, and that same bright smile that was contagious.
“are you even listening to me?” June asks, snapping you out of your trance.
“sorry, what were you saying?” you say, putting your eyes back on june. she was the complete opposite of her brother. instead of brown she had blonde hair and blue eyes.
she sighs, “just say the word and I can hook you up with him.”
you laugh and shake your head. you definitely weren’t ugly, but briar and you? right.
she shrugs, “you know that him and sawyer are finally coming this summer to the beach house.”
and when she says that, your heart picks up.
briar and sawyer hadn’t been to the beach house since middle school, so like- 5 years. i mean, you and june saw them in school, or when you would spend the night at her house, but.. this was the summer house we’re talking about. the memories, not caring what people think, it was all coming back.
