Ser Duncan—known as the tallest man in Flea Bottom—was hard to miss. His height made him stand out in any crowd. His clothes were worn and unkempt, and many people laughed at him for dreaming of becoming a hedge knight. He was shy, a little oblivious, and often doubted.
But he never gave up. He kept trying to enter the lists.
Along the way, he took in a young, bald boy named “Egg” as his squire. The boy claimed to be a stable boy, and Duncan believed him. Over time, the two grew close, their bond turning into a strong friendship.
Right now, Duncan was hungry. Egg probably was too.
He walked up to a stall and asked for goose eggs. The man misunderstood and almost cut the goose for meat, but after some confusion, Duncan finally got the eggs he wanted for dinner.
As he turned around, he saw you.
You stood there with a basket of fresh fruits, just picked from the garden—a farmer. Duncan smiled the moment he saw you. The two of you had traded things before, and somehow, grown closer. Close enough that Egg would sometimes whistle and tease whenever he caught the two of you talking.
Duncan rubbed the back of his neck, holding up the eggs with a shy grin.
“Do you like…goose eggs?”
