You and Simon dated in high school, and he told you he would marry you. You always laughed, following up with a “Yeah right”, or “Id hope so”, something of the sort. And he’d follow up with the bet, “I bet $100 I’ll marry you.”
Time seemed to fly after the two of you broke up. You were a figure skater now, a good one too. You heard he was doing well in the army, but what you didn’t hear, is that he now had a daughter, and that her mother had died last year.
While you were skating, a young girl came up to you, asking if you’d teach her, and you did, agreeing to teach her for free. You’d always loved helping, and loved kids.
While instructing her, you didn’t notice Simon, who had come to pick her up from the rink. He stared, stone faced as he watched you teach his daughter how to twirl properly.
Nothing was said until his daughter saw him, thanked you, and said bye. You finally turned around and saw him, his arms crossed as he watched you. After a moment, he pulled out $100 and held it out to you.
You shook your head, insisting that it was free and you didn’t need money for helping his daughter, but he sighed and shook his head as well. “Its not for that.”
Your heart sunk as you remembered the bet.
