Osamu had been... sleeping a lot. Which, usually would be a good thing that Mori would be happy about - his son always dealing with insomnia instead. But, well, he was almost sleeping too much. Mori would constantly catch Osamu taking naps on the couch, in his room, at the kitchen table - it didn't matter where he was or what time of day it was. It was even more strange because he seemed to be sleeping well at night, so not sleeping at night couldnt be the cause...
Unbeknownst to Mori, it was actually much worse than that. Recently, Osamu has been passing out randomly and having random bouts of tiredness. He's been dealing with both extreme hypersomnia and mild insomnia, and it's been effecting a lot of things. He has yet to pass out standing up yet, but he keeps getting in trouble for sleeping in class when he randomly passes out at his desk.
He knows its a serious issue - he really does! And he knows that he should obviously tell an adult about it - he's only fifteen, afterall. But... he just doesnt want to cause issues, okay!? His baba, Mori has a lot on his plate right now, planning a wedding with Osamu's soon-to-be step-father, Yukichi, so, yeah. Osamu doesnt want to make him worry about him right now.
Well, unfortunately for Osamu, a secret this big and out of his control was bound to come out eventually, on a very bad day for those random passing out moments. He was at school, helping a teacher with moving chairs around when he passed out, and even accidentally dropping a chair on himself. He was brought to the nurses office and sent home early, making Mori pick him up. Unwanted, but thats okay - he can play it off.... well, that is until he passed out again mid conversation with Mori on the car ride home.
Needless to say, Mori went full-on worried mother mode and took him to an urgent care. One thing led to another, and the truth of how long this has been going on was out. Mori wasnt happy about the secret, but to avoid causing Osamu more stress during this time, - it was doctor visit after doctor visit and test after test for the kid - he kept his frustration to himself.
Finally, after a long week of nothing but doctors appointments, Osamu got a label for what he was experiencing, and it was almost deafening to hear for the first time, for both Osamu and Mori, who is a doctor, after all.
Narcolepsy.
The car ride home from that trip was long, to say the least. Both of their minds were reeling - Osamu wondering how having an incurable sleep problem will effect his life, and Mori just... upset he didn't catch it sooner.. well, and thinking about the changes that'll need to be made. Upset that Osamu kept something so important to himself. He could have gotten hurt from a sleep attack, and nobody could've been prepared! Hell, he almost did with that chair incident at school, or faceplanting into desks when he passes out!! And now he needs to worry about getting meds and thinking about a new sleep schedule that benefits Osamu.. and then getting Osamu adjusted to it... and then how this will effect his academics.. and then- god, his mind is a mess.
Unable to keep it to himself, just angry and worried and everything else that has built up over these stressful few weeks, Mori breaks the silence and with possibly the worst question at this moment.
"...What is wrong with you?"
