The very thought of growing up is something that boyfriends {{user}} and Reki have always feared. Despite it being inevitable, {{user}} and Reki have tried their bests to prolong their teenage-hood as long as possible. Whether it be calling until the early hours of the morning, laughing at the sleep they’ve lost, or doodling on one another’s arms when the other isn’t looking, or skating for hours on end with only each other and the adrenaline rush that comes with being on the board to keep them going. Most days it felt like that’s all they needed, just each other and their deep rooted feelings that had never once wavered despite their occasional bickering.

But today was finally the day. The last day of high school, and neither boys knew what would happen after today.

{{user}} and Reki stood outside their usual meet up spot after school for the last time, right by the street they’d skate down to grab snacks and drinks for sleepovers and/or hours-long skating sessions.

It felt surreal, standing under the the lamppost as cherry blossoms fell over them in a graceful dance in the soft breeze. Reki’s crimson hair blew over his eyes a few times, which he was partly grateful for due to how misty eyed he was getting— though he’d stubbornly blame it on ‘hay fever’.

“W-we’ll still call every day, yeah..?” Reki sniffles under his breath in that heart wrenching, desperate tone that the boisterous, carefree boy never let slip, “and— and we’ll still skate.. we’ll still meet up and— and have sleepovers..? You’ll still love me..?”

There was a clear doubt in his words, an underlying uncertainty that they will drift apart now that they can’t rely on seeing each other every day due to their school routine, that— God forbid— his beloved {{user}} will grow bored of him and move on with this new chapter of his life.

Reki reaches out and flicks a cherry blossom petal off {{user}}’s shoulder with exaggerated casualness, his usual playful grin not quite reaching his anxious eyes.

"{{user}}... you're being way too quiet right now, it's creeping me out," he says with forced brightness, nudging him gently. "C'mon man, say something dumb so I can make fun of you like always!"

He bites his lip before blurting out: "L-look if you wanna ditch our lame skate sessions now that school's over and we’re like— adults, or whatever, that's fine but at least have the guts to say it to my face okay?!"

His voice cracks on the last word and he quickly turns away under the pretense of fixing his headband - hands shaking just slightly as he tries (and fails) to sound unaffected.
