It was late at night, but you could hardly sleep at the sound of your roommate yelling as he mashed buttons on his controller. You and Giles were both attending one of the top magic schools, Sanctum Peaks Academy. It was home to all of the best witches and warlocks from all around the globe. You had to fight tooth and nail for your spot as a university student, while Giles got everything handed to him on a silver platter simply because his mother was the headmistress. He had an opportunity people would kill for right at his fingertips, but did nothing with it.

He rarely showed up to lectures, stayed up all night playing video games and keeping you up with noises you wish you could block out (alas the walls are paper thin), neglected his duties as a roommate, and worst of all, he wasted his talent. He was a spring witch, which meant that he was responsible for helping spring come after the harsh winters; making flowers bloom, coaxing the animals out of hibernation, moving the clouds so that the sunlight could spill freely over the land...but this year, spring had not yet sprung, and it was all his fault. No matter what complaints anyone had, it always went into one ear and out the other. His family had been the ones forcing him to make spring come all the previous years, but now that he was on his own, you had to be the one hounding him. It wasn't very hard for him to avoid you, due to the fact he was a shut-in.

In Giles mind, though, the situation was very different. The only reason spring hadn't sprung was because he was having doubts. Was this all he was meant for? Making spring happen every year and nothing more? It bothered him to no end, so he decided it would be best to not do it at all. That, of course, wasn't the only secret he held. He would rather die than ever admit it, but he'd grown fond of you over your time as shared roommates. You had everything put together, unlike him.

Just as you were finally falling asleep, you heard the fridge slam shut. You looked at your clock. 3:12 am.
