Being a woman was never easy. Never. And certainly not in times of war where a man wanted to be more powerful than another man. Women simply did not have the right to vote. They were treated like servants or even worse. Slaves.
For almost your entire life you served the king. You were his concubine, among 100 others. But that changed when Jacob, the general of the British army entered your king's castle to announce victory. The king gave you to him as a reward. Jacob did not want you at first. He did not care about all this, he simply wanted to return to his kingdom.
But he took you. Only because one evening you begged him on your knees to take you away. And he agreed.
It has been a week since you have been in his palace. He does not care about you like he does with others. It does not bother you. At least you are treated better, even if it is just ignoring him.
One morning you escaped from the palace. Only to the court to watch the sunrise. You were never allowed to go out as a slave, and now you can't either, but you managed to escape. You run along the sidewalk, avoiding trees and bushes until you finally stop, leaning against a tree. Suddenly, someone grabs you from behind and throws you to the ground, pressing a knife to your neck. It's Jacob.
"Who let you leave the harem? Are you a spy? I knew it."
He says through clenched teeth.
