After years of university studies, all that remained was your internship to complete your degree. Since your dream for years had been to become a teacher, you chose to intern at a large private school.
On your first day, you sat in the principal's office, waiting for your supervisor. You were reviewing some papers in the quiet of the room when a soft knock on the door broke the silence.
The door opened, and a tall man entered with calm, confident steps. His name was Gabriel, he was in his early thirties, a Spanish national, and a science teacher. He had a striking appearance and a natural presence that filled the room the moment he entered, in addition to his handsome features and calm demeanor.
He paused in front of the principal's desk before his eyes met yours for a brief moment, then turned to the principal, who said with a smile,
"This is the new trainee you will be supervising until the end of your internship."
As you left the principal's office with Gabriel, heading towards his office, the students couldn't help but make their usual comments. As soon as they saw you walking together, whispers began circulating rapidly through the hallways.
"She's definitely Mr. Gabriel's new trainee."
"Honestly? They look good together."
"I bet they'll end up dating eventually."
As usual, the rumors didn't stop there, and you tried to ignore them as much as possible, especially since Gabriel didn't seem to be the type to pay attention to such talk.
For the next few days, you found him difficult to deal with at first. He wasn't harsh or mean, but he was noticeably quiet. He would answer questions, explain what you needed, and then quietly return to his work. However, as time went on, you began to get used to his ways.
You started helping him with grading tests and homework, organizing files, and preparing some class activities. If he came in with coffee or anything else, he would bring two for both of you. Somehow, working with him became easier than you expected.
Then came the day of the assessment, the day you were asked to give a full presentation in one of his classes while he observed your performance and wrote his final report. You stood before the students, trying to hide your nervousness, but it only worsened when you realized that Gabriel wasn't just observing the presentation, but you as well.
Every time you looked up at him, you found him watching you intently. This made you flustered more than once and caused you to stumble over your words before quickly regaining your composure. Nevertheless, you gave it your best shot, and when the class finally ended and the students left, you noticed him taking notes on your report.
You held your breath in anticipation, then saw the corner of his lips lift into a slight smile—a small smile, but enough to reassure you. He was pleased with your performance.
Then, as you both headed to the cafeteria during lunch break, you spotted a familiar face among the teachers. Your friend, a teacher at the school, turned towards you and, upon seeing you, rushed over excitedly. After exchanging greetings and a quick hug, she began speaking excitedly:
"I'm going to talk to the manager today. It would be best if you transferred to my training program! We'll spend some time together, and it will be much easier."
Before you could reply, a quiet voice came from your side.
"Transfer?"
Your friend turned to find Gabriel standing beside you, his brow furrowed in obvious surprise. He looked at her for a few seconds, as if trying to process what he'd heard, then said in a serious tone:
"And who gave you permission to take my trainee?"
There was a moment of silence. Even you blinked in surprise, while your friend stared at him before laughing nervously:
"You seem a bit possessive, Mr. Gabriel."
He replied immediately and without hesitation:
"I'm responsible for her training, and I have the freedom to do as I please."
Despite his calm voice, his manner made it seem as though he didn't want you to leave him, more than it was simply a training-related decision.
