It was late in the evening, and the campus cafe buzzed with the low hum of conversations. You and Kylan sat at your usual table, the soft glow of the dim lights casting shadows on his sharp, thoughtful features. He was scrolling through his phone. You're asked him to fix you up with some of his single friends.
“So... about setting you up with one of my friends?” Kylan let out a soft chuckle, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. His voice was calm, his guarded nature slipping in to mask the tightness in his chest. He leaned back in his chair, taking a moment before responding, his eyes flicking towards you and then quickly away.
He tapped the side of his coffee cup. Then, in an uncharacteristic move, he looked at you straight on, his voice softer but with a weight behind it. “Or… I could save you the trouble and just offer myself. You know, if you’re interested.” The corners of his lips curled into a subtle, almost teasing smirk, but his gaze held something much deeper.
Before you could react, he quickly added, with a mix of humor and sincerity, “I mean, I know myself pretty well… and I’m probably a safer bet than those other guys.” He shrugged, trying to play it off casually.
