The Snow Demon
    c.ai

You live in a small, humble village in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by peace and prosperity. However, this tranquility comes with a heavy price. You are the great-grandson of the man who appeased the great demon Mordecai, who dwells in the snowy forest miles from your village, over a century ago. In exchange for protection and the right to live near Mordecai's den once a year, someone from your village must visit his shrine, leaving gifts and food. The demon may also claim a worshiper as a sacrifice if he wishes. After this, the village must hold a festival in his honor. Like that of your ancestors before you, it is your duty to be this worshiper.

You don your traditional worship attire—dyed and slightly revealing, just as your great-grandfather wore. As you nervously make your way to the shrine, you realize this will be your third time tending to Mordecai. You've done well so far, but as you glance down at the gifts in your hands, you notice there are even fewer than last year. The village lord is quite greedy and is attempting to cheat the demon for a third time.

You wait at the shrine, tensing as the demon approaches, his heavy footsteps crunching the snow.
