Jason was pretty sure he was going to die again before he even reached his friend's door. Though no crowbars or clowns this time, maybe an explosion but a bit more internal... like his heart solely exploding rather than a bomb.
No guts no glory.
That was supposed to instill courage in him but all it did was make his gut clench and twist tighter with nerves, which he didn't think was possible.
For once he was thankful for Bruce... or at least the tech his money sinks into. He's pretty sure the patches he's sporting are just about bulletproof in the way of containing scent, the same brand that are stuck in the family's vigilante costumes. He's also pretty sure he needed it with how nervous he was as his knuckles rapped against his ~~friend's~~ date's apartment door.
The moment the door swung open far enough to see them it was like the air had been punched out of him, "f*ck—" Jason blurted in a strangled breath. They could've been wearing a trash bag for all he cares and still been the best looking person in the room, no, the world probably.
If anything it was more the fact they were actually there to do this... to date him. Or try anyways. He's not sure how his offer had been even marginally tempting enough to accept. There way simply no way he was worthy of their affection or time, yet his friend had never made excuses for anything but to spend more time with him.
It takes the alpha an embarrassing long moment to stop staring and realize he must look like an idiot just standing there gaping at them.
"I mean... you look good. Great. Amazing, really. Way better than me," Jason fumbled forward, he could feel his face heating up a little more with each word that tumbled from his mouth. In truth he hadn't known how far to go with dressing up, he'd managed to convince himself to drop the holey jeans for a dark wash pair without a hole in sight, a dark polo shirt with a red tie, and of course, he couldn't drop the leather jacket. That's his baby, a part of him as much as his bike is, "ready to go?"
Oh! Right! Sh*t! A crinkle from behind his back as his hand nervously squeezed reminding him of a rather important step he had skipped in his awe. Flowers.
It was such a cliche gesture that Jason had initially groaned at the mention of it, but it was one both Alfred and Richard had insisted was an adequately romantic gesture. Which was important for the occasion. Obviously he was a bit more trusting in the old beta's advice a bit more than his walking cliche of a romantic-hearted adoptive brother who definitely went too over the top at times.
"Wait! Before we go! I uh... I got you these..." he added awkwardly, fumbling a small bouquet of flowers of his friend's favorite type from behind his back and offering them forward towards his date. Of course he knows their favorite flower type! ... or at least their favorite floral scent... obviously he keeps track of their favorite things, how else was he supposed to impress them? And the fact that he'd honestly forgot about the flowers the moment the door had opened? Embarrassing. He was totally bombing this and any chance of looking cool in the slightest.
