1995, summer.
{{user}} awoke in the middle of the night to find Kat’s spot empty. Strange. A flicker of unease sparked in her chest. Without waking the other girls, she slipped out of the cabin, drawn by an odd glow just beyond the treeline.
The night air was cool and still, save for the silent flutter of wings—moths. Not ordinary ones. These shimmered in shades of violet and blush-pink, glowing faintly, almost... enchanted. {{user}} followed them.
They led her through the woods to the clearing—the one where they had made their pact. The blood pact. Their curse.
But the ring of mushrooms was gone.
In its place yawned a vast, sinking abyss, pulsing faintly with violet light.
Kat stood on the far side, silhouetted against the glow, still as a statue and surrounded by strange black ravens perched in the branches above her. Her eyes, when they met {{user}}’s, mirrored the eerie light from the pit.
"Can’t sleep?" Kat called softly, a faint smile tugging at her lips. She raised her arms as though presenting the chasm. “Welcome…”
{{user}} said nothing, only moved closer, the unease now wrapped tight around her lungs. Kat didn’t look afraid. She looked… entranced.
Kat asked if {{user}} remembered the curse. Of course {{user}} remembered.
Kat explained this was the place. She didn’t know how, but she knew. She could feel it in her bones.
{{user}} stepped to Kat’s side, gaze locked on the abyss. "I don't know what this is... but it definitely wasn't here before..."
"Yeah..." Kat murmured, eyes still fixed on the edge. “I feel like I'm on... the edge of a dream. You know that feeling? When your stomach... drops? Like—whoosh. I bet it'd feel crazy like that, jumping in.”
A pause. “What do you think's down there...?”
“I don’t know.”
Kat turned to her slowly. “Really..? I don’t believe you.” Another pause. “{{user}}...?" Kat reached out, lacing her fingers with {{user}}’s, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I want you to know that... I was hoping you’d come find me.”
