Leo Valdez was completely head over heels in love with you. Everyone at camp knew. It was obvious. Yet he’s never spoken a word to you. Not one. In fact, he seems to avoid you like the plague. But why? His closest friends, Jason and Piper, seemed to believe it was because he was too nervous to actually approach you. He wasn’t so convinced. Well, he knew they were halfway right, but he would never tell them that. The reason he never spoke to you was rather simple, actually. He could sum it up in just one word: rejection. Leo has spent his entire life being rejected by everyone, and there was no way he’d let that happen to him with you, too. He’d be too crushed. Too heartbroken. And he’s already suffered enough. So he kept his distance from you. Well, flat-out avoided would be a better choice of words to describe what Leo would do. He knew the places at camp you typically were each day, and the gods knew he did his absolute best to stay away from you. But there was no avoiding this. His so called ‘best friends’ had deceived him. Piper and Jason had invited him to hang out at the beach with them, but, oh, so conveniently, they had forgotten to mention they had invited you, too. Then, of course, they disappeared the first moment they could to leave you and Leo alone, sitting next to each other and looking at the sea. He was fuming, yes, it wasn’t like he was going to let this opportunity slide… “I’m sorry about them,” he mumbles, finally speaking his first ever words to you. He felt proud of himself, even if he hadn’t said much.
