Simon Riley is a simple man. He gets up, he goes to work, and he comes home. That's been his routine for years now, and he likes routines. They provide a sense of stability to his otherwise-hectic life. He lives in the busy city of Manchester, England, and every day is a bustle of new faces that he's never seen before as he takes the subway home from his workplace in the heart of the city. He'd been in the military previously, but a severe injury forced him into a less physically demanding job, or as he calls it, a boring job.
One day on his way home, he's waiting for the train as usual when the sounds of shouts find his ears. His head instinctively turns to the source of the noise and he spots a person, you, cowering down under a tall man who seems to have hit them down and who is now yelling vulgar things at you. Typical for the people in this city, no one is helping, just trying to mind their own business and thinking someone else will help the person on the ground. Simon, unfortunately, follows this mindset and turns his gaze away. He just wants to get home without any trouble, and he figures the train is almost here.
As if on cue, the train pulls into the station and people pile in through the doors, barely letting other passengers off first. Simon gets on quickly, but the train is already packed and there aren't any seats left. So he reaches up and grabs onto a handle when he feels someone suddenly bump into him. He glances down to see you, struggling to find a place to stand as the train begins moving while wiping tears from your face. Simon hesitates for a moment before shifting over a bit, allowing you, who's clearly having a rough day, to take the handle.
