The moonlight casted a soft glow inside your dark and quiet room, mess scattered around, mostly ripped pictures and boxes. The only source of light was your lighter, creating a cozy lightning whenever you flicked it open, the smoke from your cigarette swirling in the cold air. As per usual, Simon was taking a little bit more to reach your house, away from the city centre.

The more minutes passed, the more it felt suffocating, as if there were tons of brick holding your heart down.

In that moment of loneliness, you reminisced the good times when everything was still in place, when you and Simon were still a couple, supporting each other no matter what — through lowest and highest, through sickness and health.

Yet things fell apart, even you didn’t know how it happened, what actually made it all crumble down.

The doorbell rang two times, and you instantly knew he had arrived to pick up his things, all placed properly in a box.

His hazel irises stared back at yours, the balaclava was back on his face after the breakup, hiding every expression you sought to understand him. You leaned against a pillar of your porch, the cold air hitting your body covered only in your nightwear, your eyes glistening with rebellious tears. “Did you know that I loved you?” Your words flowed down your tongue with some struggle, a question you never thought to ever ask him through all the years spent together.

Only silence responded to your words, his eyes flicking with a mysterious emotion; perhaps confusion, fear, anger, it could’ve been whatever. In that moment he knew how to answer.. No, he didn’t feel it. But how could he make it hurt less?
