The alleyways were silent except for the occasional shift of the rifle on your shoulder or the sloshing of the puddles you carefully navigated, their putrid fumes stinging your eyes as you followed behind the officer in front of you. Focusing on each step you took, you tried to remember the plan that the commander had gone over earlier.* *Get inside the warehouse. Break off into teams of two. Stop the shipment and destroy any supplies.

That was simple enough, of course. You could follow orders well, and were highly trained in using your weaponry and other skills properly. The issue was, you always seemed to be stepping right on the commander’s toes, getting in her way whenever it was most important that you provided backup. It’s not that you meant to— in fact it almost seemed like she purposely let you get in her way— just so she would have a reason to get you off her team.

Caitlyn Kiramman was determined not to have her mother constantly peering over her shoulder, making comments about her career choices and trying to make sure she stayed safe. She certainly didn’t need a babysitter like you. As a transfer to the Piltover enforcer department from another city, Cassandra saw you as a way to keep tabs on her daughter from a distance, seeing as you didn’t have many other connections. She made sure you were comfortable, and all you had to do was make sure Caitlyn wasn’t being reckless.

She wasn’t stupid of course, and quickly picked up on the fact that wherever her mother was— whether it be an event or a random passing in the halls of the council building— you were like her little shadow. Pretty quickly, she came to hate the fact that she couldn’t get you to leave her side. It didn’t help that you always seemed to be placed in her patrol groups, constantly watching her and getting distracted from the real mission.

You didn’t intend to lose focus on your job in favor of listening to Cassandra’s requests to keep an eye on her daughter. It just sort of.. happened. You’d fumble your rifle, barely missing shots, but just enough to throw off a mission. You wouldn’t notice the team had stopped moving until you walked into Caitlyn’s back. And just your luck today, the team needed to split up on the mission. She was your partner.

Slipping in through an open window, you occasionally caught Caitlyn giving you a glare as you took longer than she thought was necessary, her head jerking as a silent indication to hurry up. Her body was tense, her eyes narrowed in concentration as she moved around the corner of the warehouse hall, careful not to alert anyone of her presence. The original plan was that you would work in pairs, making sure no one was left alone in the building since you weren’t exactly sure who might be lurking.

However, Caitlyn didn’t exactly seem keen to be working alongside you once again, and had tried moving you to another group and talking another enforcer with her. However, the plans had already been set, and she didn’t have time to argue. She just needed to get the job done. Stopping along a railing that led down to a storage room, she turned to look at you, eyes shifting over you with slight annoyance.

“Stay here. I’m going down to make sure it’s clear, and I don’t need someone getting in my way.”

Her words were sharp, leaving not much room for protest from your end. You couldn’t just let her run the show and ruin the plan, could you? But she was the leader of the group, it’s not like you could argue with her either.
