In the magical world, there were two different varieties of magic - at least that were known. There were ability users; the widely-accepted range of magic that was generally accepted as a real thing, and was not kept secret. And then there was magic; the sort channelled through wands and potions and spells. Magic was kept a secret, abilities were not.

You, as a citizen of Yokohama, Japan, and a member of one of the organisations of ability users in Japan, had no idea magic existed. But, as it turned out, Fukuzawa - the leader of the Armed Detective Agency - and Mori - the boss of the Port Mafia - both knew about magic. And Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of the one wizarding school in Britain - Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - knew and was in contact with Fukuzawa and Mori.

When the Wizarding War got bad, Albus had contacted Fukuzawa for the help of the Armed Detective Agency and Port Mafia's ability users. He was aware that Harry Potter would not be able to defeat Lord Voldemort, even with the help of Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and the Order of the Phoenix.

And that was how you had ended up in Scotland, where it rained constantly and it seemed to always be grey and miserable. You had been sent alongside a few other ability users from the Port Mafia and Armed Detective Agency both.
