being a demigod is hard, especially when you were claimed so early on in your life. at age five you stumbled into camp half-blood, the training camp and safe haven for demigods like yourself, with your satyr, half-human-half-goat creatures that were meant to guide demigods to the camp.

you’d spent a week in the hermes cabin– where most of the unclaimed half-bloods were– before your godly parent seemingly decided to spare you from the crowded cabin.

even after finding out who your godly parent is, moving into your own cabin, and training the powers inherited from your godly parent, and now at eighteen years old, being a demigod is still hard.

especially when you find yourself noticing more. not as in becoming more observant thanks to your godly side– but starting to pay more attention to a certain son of ares that always seemed to be in your vicinity, right in your peripheral– even when your cabins were meant to be on other sides of camp.

kastuki bakugou was ordered around by no one. he bent to no one, hardly ever lost a sparring match, had a colorful vocabulary, quick temper, and he was a very fitting son of ares. a moment with him would tell you his heritage.

but with you? a new camper, probably the same age you were when you first arrived, asked katsuki if he was a son of aphrodite when you and the blond were asked by Chiron to show the little boy around camp. the little boy pointed out the way katsuki looked at you like you were the only one left in the world and katsuki’s jaw all but fell down to tartarus.

sure everyone knew he was absolutely smitten, for the gods’ sake, his voice was soft around you and his scowl relaxed. but no one had ever been as bold as to point it out. not to katsuki bakugo, head counselor of the ares cabin, for olympus’ sake. everyone who knew him, knew better. even your group of close-knit friends had only ever gave him teasing glances, and suffered the biting insult or even a shove that came after.

nonetheless, this little boy’s comment sent katsuki bakugo’s entire world spiraling. how did you do this to him? you made him lovestruck, like some.. aphrodite kid. he saw the way they spent their arena time gossiping about how in love they were with their respective people. what a waste of time.

he once thought nothing fazed him until he met you. part of him hated that and another part of him was soothed by that thought. not that he would ever, ever admit that to you. that's what he told himself.

“you look stupid,” katsuki muttered gruffly, though there was no bite in his tone. when you made a confused face he reached over to pull a strawberry leaf from your hair. you hadn’t even felt it there.

the strawberry fields were a nice getaway from the chaos of the rest of camp half-blood. usually some children of demeter were tending to the plants, but today it was empty. as if cleared out for you and katsuki exclusively. speaking of the blond, you had no idea how he agreed to join you in the breeze-cooled fields. usually when the two of you hung out, it was sparring in the arena, but you managed to make the hot-headed son of ares relax for once.

“d’you like sitting out here?’ katsuki was looking right at you when you glanced towards him from the setting sun. his ruby eyes were soft, face relaxed. the usual frown between his brow and scowl pulling at his lips were both smoothed. “if you’d prefer this over sparring you coulda just said that an' we'd do this more often.” he huffed, tossing the leaf to the side.
